Scanning Text in the CIRCA Labs

Introduction
Text Bridge Pro is an optical character recognition (OCR) utility.  It is available for use in the CIRCA labs on scanner-equipped PC's.
This program is optimal only for saving text documents without graphics.  If you need to scan graphics, see the handout Scanning Graphics or Scanning Graphics though Adobe PhotoShop.


Starting Text Bridge Pro

There are two possible ways to open Text Bridge Pro at the CIRCA labs:

    Method 1:
        a) Click Start.
        b) Select Scanning.
        c) Select Text Bridge Pro 98.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Method 2:
        a) Click Start.
        b) Select Programs.
        c) Select Text Bridge Pro 98.
 

  1. Place a page of your document under the scanner's lid, face down on the glass.  Align the top of your image against the rulers at the top right corner of the glass.
  2. Close the lid.
  3. If the original document is a page in a book, hold the book against the glass with your hand.


Scanning text with Text Bridge Pro
 

  1. With Text Bridge Pro open on the computer, select the AutoProcess icon (located on the far left of the screen), which looks like this:


  1. AutoProcess then opens a dialog box which looks like this:



  1. Select Any Page as the page type.  Make sure Scanner is selected as the Page Source.
  2. Click OK to begin scanning.
  3. After the first page scans, you will be given the option to scan more pages or to stop scanning.  If you have more pages to scan, select More Pages.  If not, select No More.
  4. When you have completed the scanning process and have selected No More, you will be prompted to proofread the document. Make any changes here.


Saving files in Text Bridge Pro
 

  1. When you have finished proofreading and are ready to save, click File.
  2. Select Save As.
  1.  Be sure to select 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) for the Save in: field to save the file to your disk.
  2.  In the Save as Type:  field, select the format in which you want the document saved.  Note that the
  3.  Word formats save as Rich Text Files (RTF).
  4.  Name the file, then click Save.
