Scanning the Image

  1. Place your image under the lid, face down on the scanner glass.  Align the top of your image against the rulers at the top right corner of the glass.
  2. Close the lid.  If the original is a page in a book, hold the book against the glass with your hand.
  3. The screen will look like this:

  1. Click the Preview button. Desk Scan II will scan your image and show it on the right half of the window.
  2. Select and Image Type from the Type Menu.  For color photos, Sharp Millions of Colors is recommended.
  3. Draw a box around the part of the scan area containing the graphic.  Do this by dragging the mouse pointer from one part of the scan area to another.  By selecting the graphic, the empty space is eliminated and only the graphic will be scanned and saved.
  4. If needed, adjust the image settings:

Automatic Exposure: allows Desk Scan II to choose the settings

Mirror: creates a mirror image-flips the image around the vertical axis

Negative: creates a negative or inverse of the image

Non-uniform Scaling-changes the scaling to allow non-uniform scaling

Lock- locks the width and height of the image

  1. Click on the Final button when you are finished adjusting the settings.

Saving the Graphic

  1. Select File.
  2. Select Save As.

  1. Select 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) for the Save in: field to save the file to your disk.
  2. Your image can be saved in several formats.  Most Windows Applications can use the MS Windows 3.0 BitMap format, and many can use the TIFF 5.0 graphics format.
  3. Select a format from the list, type a file name, and click the Save button.
  4. You can repeat the process to scan another graphic or choose Exit from the File menu.
  5. You are now ready to use another applications such as Word for Windows, PageMaker, or WordPerfect to import the graphic.
