Introduction

The scanning program available for use on scanner-equipped PCs in the CIRCA labs is Desk Scan II.  Desk Scan II can be accessed through Adobe PhotoShop to enhance scanning options.
For more information on DeskScan II, refer to the CIRCA handout, Scanning Graphics.

Why use Adobe PhotoShop?

The options provided by Desk Scan II are limited.  For example, the few formats available to save a file in Desk Scan II are extremely large (such as bitmaps and TIFFs).  When saving in PhotoShop, you have a greater variety of formats to choose from, including jpegs (.jpg) and gifs (.gif). These are much smaller files, thus taking up less space on a disk.
There are also more options in PhotoShop for manipulating the scanned image that there are in Desk Scan II.  In addition to cropping and resizing, PhotoShop provides paint tools, type tools, canvas rotation, and several filters to further manipulate the image.

         To open Adobe PhotoShop:
                1. Click Start.
                2. Select Programs.
                3. Select Adobe PhotoShop.
