This handout tells UF employees how they can get a copy of LIMDEP, a general-purpose econometric modeling program for IBM PCs and compatibles. The terms of the license and a registration form are included.
What is LIMDEP?
LIMDEP, developed by William H. Greene, is a general-purpose econometric modeling program. It was originally written for estimating LIMited DEPendent variable models such as the Tobit, probit, and smaple selection models. It has evolved over ten years into a large, flexible package for analyzing nearly every type of model typically fit by econometricians with cross-section data.Who can have a copy?LIMDEP is a collection of tools that includes a programming language, matrix algebra package, and scalar and vbariable manipulation programs all built around a large set of fully automated statistical estimation programs.
LIMDEP has been licensed to the University of Florida for use by university employees. This license covers only the University of Florida, not the Northeast Regional Data Center (NERDC). Non-UF users of NERDC must take out their own licenses.
Hardware requirements
LIMDEP 5.1 runs on any 286, 386 or 486 computer. It requires 640K of memory. Version 5.1 does not use extended or expanded memory, even if it is present. Math coprocessor is preferable but not required.LIMDEP 6.0 runs on a 386 bor 486 computer. It is incompatible with 8086 XT processors. Version 6.0 requires a minimum of 3MB of memory. This will include the base 1MB on the system board and at least 2 MB of extended (not expanded) memory. It will use up to a maximum of 16 MB. Version 386 requires an 80387 math coprocessor.
LIMDEP supports all IBM compatible CGA, EGA, and VGA monitors, as well as Hercules compatible monitors. LIMDEP also supports HP LaserJet Series II, IIP, and III; IBM Proprinter; Epson MX and FX/80 series; Toshiba; and compatibles.
Getting a copy of LIMDEP
To get a copy of LIMDEP, you must sign the license agreement form at the back of the handout LIMDEP available at CIRCA, E520 CSE. It should be returned to the LIMDEP group, CIRCA E520 CSE. You also need to mail or bring four 5.25" (360K) or two 3.5" (720K) blank formatted diskettes to the CIRCA office in E520 CSE. For LIMDEP 6.0, one 3.5" (1.4MB) will be sufficient.License obligationsThere is no charge for LIMDEP software. However, CIRCA reserves the right to charge recovery costs in the future.
