The University of Florida is implementing a universal ID for access to computing and information services. This ID, called GatorLink, identifies you to these services. Currently, the baseline services available to all faculty, staff and students include an Internet mailbox, a per month allocation of Internet dialup time, web space, access to ISIS and CIRCA computer lab access. There is no charge for these services. Other additional charged services can be accessed with the GatorLink ID, including Unix computing, extra dialup time and laser printing. An increasing number of administrative applications and college and department services use the GatorLink ID for authentication purposes.
You can activate your GatorLink ID online or in room E214 or E520 CSE.You can apply online at at http://www.gatorlink.ufl.edu. If you come to E520 CSE, bring your Gator 1 card. Ask the CIRCA account manager for other account applications. If you are not sure what service you need, see the UF Computing Help Desk consultant in room E520 CSE or call 392-HELP.
Internet mailbox - email accessible from the web or from software like Netscape and Eudora (IMAP or POP protocol). This service gives you up to 20MB of mail storage.
Internet dialup - dialup Internet connection (PPP/SLIP) through a modem. A free quota of dialup is available per month for each GatorLink ID through a local telephone number.
Internet web space - 20MB of web space to publish a web page. The space is accessed by using Internet file transfer(FTP) software.
ISIS - The Integrated Student Information System, which includes on-line course registration, can be accessed through your GatorLink dialup or any other Internet dialup or network connection. You can take advantage of unlimited free dialup to ISIS, however, if you use a special dialup procedure. Read the handout titled Telegator and ISIS Computer Access available in CSE E520 or on the web at http://www.circa.ufl.edu.Currently, you must supply your Gatorlink Username and Password to use ISIS.
Computer lab (Microlab) Access - free access to microcomputers(Macs and PCs) in the CIRCA computer labs. This includes an Internet connection, access to your email, popular word processing, spreadsheets and graphic programs. This service is on a space-available basis given the limited number of microcomputers available in the CIRCA labs.
You are considered an undergraduate student if you have not yet received your bachelor's degree or you are enrolled as a post-baccalaureate student. If you want file storage or Unix computer services, apply for the Unix service with your GatorLink ID. There is a $15 per semester charge for Unix computer access.
If you live on campus, you can use a direct DHNet Internet connection in your residence hall. For more information see http://www.housing.ufl.edu/.
Your GatorLink free dialup allocation is 60 hours per month. If you want to expand your per month Internet dialup service beyond your free allocation, you must authorize extra dialup with your GatorLink ID or subscribe to another Internet provider.
If you want high quality laser printing, use your GatorLink ID to submit a charged print job to the laser printers in CIRCA labs. There is a per page charge for released print jobs.
You are considered a graduate student if you are enrolled in a graduate degree program and are classified "7", "8" or "9", or if you are in an advanced degree program such as Law or Medicine. If you want file storage, or other Unix computer services, apply for the Unix service with your GatorLink ID. There is no charge for this service for graduate students.
If you live on campus, you can use a direct DHNet Internet connection in your residence hall. For more information see http://www.housing.ufl.edu/.
Your GatorLink free dialup allocation is 90 hours per month. If you want to expand your per month Internet dialup service beyond your free allocation, authorize extra dialup with your GatorLink ID or subscribe to another Internet provider.
If you want access to a specific IBM mainframe system, you can also have a NERDC account with NERSP or OS/390 batch access. Graduate students are allocated a certain amount of system resources per month to use for any one or a combination of these services.
If you want high quality laser printing, use your GatorLink ID to submit a charged print job to the laser printers in CIRCA labs. There is a per page charge for released print jobs.
If you are assigned to teach a course at UF, you can have a block of student accounts, on the CIRCA Unix computer or the NERDC IBM mainframe.Ask the CIRCA account manager for the Class Computing Access Application.
If you want file storage, or other Unix computer services, apply for the Unix service with your GatorLink ID. There is no charge for this service for faculty.Your GatorLink free dialup allocation is 120 hours per month. If you want to expand your per month Internet dialup service beyond your free allocation, authorize extra dialup with your GatorLink ID or subscribe to another Internet provider.

If you want file storage, or other Unix computer services, apply for the Unix service with your GatorLink ID. You must have a letter from your department stating that the Unix service is needed as part of the department's mission. Apply in E520 CSE with the department letter and your Gator 1 Card.Your GatorLink free dialup allocation is 60 hours per month. If you want to expand your per month Internet dialup service beyond your free allocation, authorize extra dialup with your GatorLink ID or subscribe to another Internet Provider.

If you live on campus, you may be able to use a direct Internet connection in your residence hall through the Division of Housing. This connection uses the campus network rather than modem lines. For more information see http://www.housing.ufl.edu/

NERDC IBM mainframe
The Northeast Regional Data Center(NERDC) IBM mainframe is a large IBM multiuser computer. This complex computer runs the OS/390 and AIX Unix (NERSP) operating systems and is connected to the Internet. Facilities include electronic mail, programming languages, and many applications like SAS and SPSS. This computer is suitable for all types of computing. Because of its speed and capacity, it is preferred for numerical analysis with large amounts of data. Some types of NERDC accounts are available from CIRCA.
Unix (CIRCA Unix computer Grove)
The CIRCA Unix computer (Grove) is a cluster of computers running the Unix operating system and is connected to the Internet. Facilities include electronic mail, popular computer languages, and applications like SAS, Matlab, Minitab and some GNU software. The Grove cluster runs a World Wide Web server for individual and student organization web pages.
