This handout will help you configure your home computer to dial the campus network. It is written for those using their own modem program to dial campus services. Specific modem software and step-by-step instructions to dial the campus network are available on the UF Software CD, sold at the UF Bookstores Technology Hub for $3 plus tax. See http://www.circa.ufl.edu/cd-rom for more information. You can also download software from http://www.software.ufl.edu.

For UF computers, you should configure your software for local echo off and you should emulate a VT100 keyboard.

Campus Dialup Servers provide access to GatorLink services, the Internet, and NERDC computers. Use the following modem settings:

When your modem connects, you will see a list of services and the Username: prompt. Type one of the following commands:

Command	Service
ISIS	Integrated Student Information System - available via PPP/SLIP dialup. After typing ISIS at the Username: prompt, press the Enter key at the Password: prompt (there is no password). This service offers unlimited free dialup to the ISIS site only.
LUIS	Library User Information Service
UFINFO	Campus WWW Information Server
NERMVS	NERDC main menu. From here, you can SIGNON to NERDC services or get to LUIS, UFINFO, DOCSYS, NERUTIL, or SAMAS.
NERSP	NERDC Unix cluster
NERVM	NERDC VM/CMS
userid/n	Available to NERDC accounts. To access SLIP/PPP, or telnet or tn3270 to non-NERDC computers. Type your NERDC userid followed by /n. Your account is charged $.008 per minute while you're connected. 800 number use is charged $.10 per minute
username/i	Available to GatorLink Internet dialup service. To access SLIP/PPP, or telnet or tn3270 to non-NERDC computers. Type your GatorLink username followed by /i. You are allocated a monthly quota of free dialup time. If you have authorized additional charged GatorLink dialup, your account is charged $.008 per minute for connection time used beyond your free monthly allocation. 800 number use is charged $.10 per minute, regardless of free quota.
password	allows you to change your GatorLink or NERDC password. A menu guides you through the password change.
HELP	An online document entitled Dial-In Access to NERDC Services and the Internet will display information about establishing a connection with NERDC.
QUIT	This will break the connection with the dialup server.

There is no dialup service charge for these services unless otherwise noted above. Once you log in to a computer, however, some hosts charge your account. To configure SLIP/PPP Internet dialup software:

DNS (Name server)	128.227.128.24

Subnet mask	255.255.255.0

The default terminal type is VT100. For telnet connections to UNIX systems this sets the TERM variable. For tn3270 connections, this selects the VT100 keymap.
