Macintosh TN3270 February 1, 1993 |
TN3270 is a freeware application allowing Macintoshes to have 3179 graphics terminal sessions and do FTP file transfers with NERVM and other IBM hosts that support TCP/IP protocol. TN3270 is not for use with any non-IBM host operating systems. Do not use TN3270 with a modem.
Your Mac must be connected to UFNET, have an IP number assigned to it and be running System Software 6.0.3 or later and MacTCP 1.0 or later. To connect your Mac to UFNET, check with your departmentís network administrator or call Digital Design Facility, 392-2464. To get your IP number, check with your departmentís network administrator or with Dave Pokorney at NERDC, 392-4601.
Faculty, staff, and A&P personnel may get a copy of TN3270 at the Faculty Support Center, 2215 Turlington Hall, 392-7249. If your Mac is connected to UFNET you can copy the TN3270 and MacTCP folders from the Public disk on the VAXshare on MAPLE AppleShare file server in the CIRCA II zone. Installation instructions and other documents are included in the TN3270 and MacTCP folders.
1. Select the Chooser desk accessory under the _ menu. Select the AppleShare icon, the CIRCA II zone, the VAXshare on MAPLE Server, and click OK.
2. Click Guest then OK.
3. Select the Public volume and click OK. Once the Public volume icon appears on the right side of your screen, you may close Chooser. The TN3270 folder is located on the Public volume in the Mac folder under Telecommunications. To copy, drag the TN3270 folder onto your disk.
4. To modify the configuration of your copy of TN3270, follow the instructions provided in the documentation in the TN3270 folder.
How to connect to NERVM using TN3270
You must have MacTCP installed and configured with your IP number before connecting.
To connect, double-click on the Mac NERVM icon for your model Mac. If you want to work on NERVM, log on and off as usual. When you're finished, quit TN3270 by selecting Quit under the File menu.
TN3270 uses FTP for file transfers. To activate FTP, select FTP Enable under the Network menu. When using Macintosh TN3270 with NERVM to transfer files, use the following prompts/commands (other host computers might have different prompts and different commands):
Host prompt Macintosh:
R; enter FTP<space>your IP number<return>
USER: no user name needed, press any key and <return>
Command: enter PUT<space>filename.filetype.filemode (this puts the NERVM file
in the Mac's current transfer folder)
-or-
enter GET<space>filename (gets Mac file from Mac's current folder and copies it to NERVM)
Command: enter QUIT
The MPUT and MGET commands process a group of files when used with an asterisk (*) as a wildcard character (e.g. MPUT PROJ1*.* puts all the host files starting with PROJ1 onto your Mac disk).
When getting a Mac file, you must enclose the filename in quotation marks if the filename has any spaces in it. The same rule applies when changing folders with the CD command (e.g. CD "/disk name/folder name").
Full details about FTP file transfers and commands are in chapter five of the TN3270 manual, which is available in the TN3270 distribution files.
CIRCA includes five different keymaps with its distribution copy of TN3270: CIRCAdefault, CIRCAnumeric, CIRCAvt100pad, default and numeric keymaps. You choose the keymap that best fits your keyboard and habits. Use the Settings pull-down menu to select a keymap.
CIRCAdefault keymap: Modified for compatibility with similar Mac and PC software.
CIRCAdefault keymap with comand key pressed: for Macs without a numeric keypad or arrow keys.

CIRCAnumeric (as modified for keyboard compatibility with other similar software on Macs and PCs)
This is the same as CIRCA default, except it does not use the numeric keypad for 3270 function keys. It is available for numeric data entry use. The CIRCA numeric keymap is shown below (for the extended keyboard):
CIRCAvt100pad, as modified for compatibility with other similar software on Macs and PCs, for users who prefer the VT100-style numeric keypad mapping of 3270 PF, and PA keys:
CIRCAvt100pad with the command key pressed, for Macs without a numeric keypad or arrow keys:
Default (as it comes from Brown University)
This map is identical to the CIRCAdefault, except for the following keys:
3270 key CIRCAdefault Default from Brown
Numeric (as it comes from Brown Univ.) is identical to the Default from Brown, except the numeric keypad is not used for PF and PA function keys. It maps the numeric keypad as shown above for CIRCAnumeric.
