I. What is Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player?

The Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player are both free web players from Adobe. Each has a distinct purpose:

II. What are the System Requirements?

Adobe Flash Player 7 is supported on the following Windows operating system platforms and browsers. (Note: All users should upgrade to Flash 7.0r19 or later because of the following security fixes.)

Windows NT Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape 7.x, Mozilla 1.x, CompuServe 7, and Opera 7.11
Windows 2000 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x, Netscape 4.7, Netscape 7.x, Mozilla 1.x, CompuServe 7, AOL 8, and Opera 7.11
Windows XP Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape 7.x, Mozilla 1.x, CompuServe 7, AOL 8, and Opera 7.11

All users should upgrade to Flash 7.0r19 or later because of the following security fixes

Adobe Flash Player 7 and Shockwave Player   should recognize is support on the following Windows operating systems, hardware and browsers:

Windows 2000 running a Pentium III processor or greater with 128MB of RAM
Windows XP running a Pentium II processor or greater with 128MB of RAM
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service Pack 2
Netscape 7.1
Mozilla 1.x  Note: On some Windows XP systems, the Shockwave plug in may not work unless Mozilla is run in Windows NT or 2000 Compatibility mode. This appears to be a Shockwave issue, not a Mozilla one (Mozilla bug Report 225894).

III. Is There Anything I Should Know Before Installing

Adobe Shockwave Player and Flash Player should automatically recognize the browsers installed on your computer and install without problems.

IV. How Do I Setup Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player?

Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player requires no special setup instructions.  The program should work properly after it has been installed and the computer is restarted.

V. How Do I Use Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player?

VI. How Do I Uninstall Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player?

Shockwave Player can be removed using the Windows Add/Remove Programs Control panel.

  1. Click on the Start button. Click on Settings and then select Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel window, double-click the Add/Remove Programs shortcut.
  3. Scroll-down the list of installed applications on the Install/Uninstall page.
  4. Select Adobe Shockwave Player.
  5. Click on the Add/Remove button and follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. We recommend removing one program at a time and restarting the computer each time you remove a program.

To uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX controls:
