This CD is intended for faculty, staff, and students of the University of Florida. Most programs can be used freely as long as you maintain your affiliation with the university. Should your affiliation with the university cease, some of the programs will need to be purchased or removed from your computer.

All information files on this CD provide instructions on how to use GatorLink and other campus networking services. The software on the CD is organized into three general groups of software:
Internet Software - Designed to connect to and to communicate with other computers on the university network and the Internet. These programs include Web browsers and e-mail programs.
Utilities and Applications - Designed to expand your computer's capabilities. These programs include anti-virus, spyware removal applications, file compression, and file transfer programs.
Training Resources - The section, Online Training, provides users with resources to University Faculty, Staff and Students for free on-line training in Windows Vista, Office 2007 and more.
DO NOT confuse these requirements with the university's Student Computer Requirements. The requirements listed here reflect the lowest minimum requirements necessary to access the Internet and the university's computer services. The CD’s software requirements follow:
It is not necessary to install all of the programs on this CD, nor is it necessary to install all of the programs at one time. We encourage you to read the description of each program before making the decision to install. For most people installing one of each of the following types of programs will satisfy most of your Internet needs:
Several other programs are available on the CD that can broaden your Internet capabilities.
The Microsoft Windows computer system provides software that will allow your computer to connect you to the university's network and the Internet. For instruction explaining how to setup your computer system, select the menu link or click Connecting to UF
Web browser are used to view web sites on the Internet. We offer the most current versions of Firefox, Netscape Communicator, Mozilla and Microsoft Internet Explorer so that most computers will be able to browse the internet. For information and installation instructions for each browser, select the menu link or click Browsers.
Several e-mail management programs are available on this CD. Each program can work with your e-mail service to retrieve, display, send, and organize your e-mail messages. For information and installation instructions for each browser, select the menu link or click Email.
Many computers on the Internet can be accessed by your computer. Terminal emulation programs commonly referred to as telnet clients allow you to connect to and run programs on remote computer systems. FTP clients allows you to transfer files between your computer and a computers on a network or the Internet. This CD includes Telnet and FTP clients. For more information and installation instructions for these programs, select the menu link or click Connecting to Computers.
This group of programs is designed to expand your computer's capabilities. We provide an McAfee Virus Protection software, InfoZip's WIZ compression program for zipping and unzipping files, Adobe's Acrobat Reader for viewing pdf files and Macromedia's Flash and Shockwave viewers for viewing specialized web sites. Return to TopThe UF VPN Project is a service that allows you to build a secure "virtual" network connection between your computer and the UF core network. This type of VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection is commonly known as a remote access or tunnel mode VPN. When using this VPN connection, your computer appears as if it were on the UF core network. This also allows you to gain access to external resources from off campus (such as library databases,) that are based on UF source addresses. For more information, point your web browser to:

Return to TopNetwork Services within the Office of Information Technology is deploying a campus wide wireless network. Anyone with a Gatorlink account and an appropriate wireless networking card can set up their laptop computer to access this service.
