I. INTRODUCTION

The UF Software CD is a collection of programs and instructional files that explain how to connect to and use the University of Florida's computer services.  The programs on this CD can send and retrieve information over the University's computer network and the Internet, provide protection against viruses, and enhance your computer's abilities to view other files.

This is the main instructional document. This document directs you to other files with specific installation and set up instructions. To open an instructional file, double-click on the file's name.

Please note: DO NOT redistribute this CD. Only faculty, staff, and students of the University of Florida may use this CD.

II. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

It is not necessary to install all of these programs.  Nor is it necessary  to install all of the programs at one time.  We recommend:

First:
Read the GatorLink Dial-up Information and Software section or the DHnet's Ethernet Port Service section (which ever is applicable).   These sections explain how to access the University's computer services and the Internet.

Second:
Install and set up a web browser program and an electronic mail (E-mail) program.  Most of your networking needs will be satisfied by these two programs.

Third:
Install any other programs as needed. If you do not have an anti-virus program, we recommend installing McAfee's Virex software.

Special Note:
Most installation programs require all other programs to be closed. We recommend that you printout and read the file of each program you are installing before you begin the installation. If you are unable to printout the file, read the "How to Install" section carefully and make notes.
