Internet Explorer 3.03 is an older version of the web browser Internet Explorer 4.0. It is capable of downloading and presenting different types of documents and graphics found on the Internet. It also manages E-mail and News-group messages with Microsoft's Internet Mail. Every version of InternetExplorer comes with the Internet Connection Wizard for those that need a dialer program.There are other web browsers on this CD. This program is for Windows 3.1x. It requires:
During the installation, we suggest the following responses to some of the prompts:
- Read the Software License Agreement.
- (Only) If the installer discovers existing components of Internet Explorer on your computer, it will give you the option to:
Add and Remove (programs)
Reinstall (programs)
Remove all (programs)If you have never used Internet Explorer or any of its components, select the Remove All button to remove the old components, restart your computer and then repeat the install instructions. This will remove all the old files.If you have used Internet Explorer or one of its components and want to keep the old information,
consider the Reinstall feature.If you want to add or remove a component use the Add and Remove button.
- Unless there is a need to store the program in another directory, we suggest using the default directory provided. The directory will probably be: c:\iexplore
- Use the Custom install method instead of the Complete install method. This will give you the opportunity to remove any unwanted components from the installation.
The components that will be installed are:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.3If you already have a dialer program like CiscoRemote Lite, then do NOT check:
Internet Mail
TCP/IP Stack and Dialer
Virtual Machine for Java (TM)
TCP/IP Stack and Dialer.If you already have an E-mail program like Eudora Lite, PC-Pine, Pegasus Mail, or Execmail, then do NOT check: Internet Mail. (Unless you want to try it.)
- Use Microsoft Internet Explorer for your Program Group name.
- (ONLY) If you install the TCP/IP Stack and Dialer will the installer ask you about your modem. If you installed the TCP/IP Stack and Dialer, then read the directions carefully.
- Reboot your computer after the installation is complete.
- Start from the Program Manager window.
- Open the File menu and select the Run option.
- In the Command Line box of the Run window, enter:
Z:\SOFTWARE\MSIE\WIN3X3\SETUP.EXE
"Z" represents the CD-ROM drive letter.
- Click the OK button.
Internet Explorer will work the first time you run the program, however you will need to set up the program to suit your needs.After the installation, you will have the following icons added to your Program Group: Internet
Explorer, Internet Access Wizard, and Internet Mail. All of these components work together to provide
networking capabilities.
Connection Wizard:
The Internet Conection Wizard will appear as a telephone icon named "Get on the Internet". It is designed to create an icon that will automatically dial into your dialup service. When you run the program, reply to these questions in the following
way:
- Use the MANUAL setup option. The Automatic option will set your modem up to connect to Microsoft's dailup services.
- Name of Service Provider: GatorLink ID
- If you dailup from out of town, then check Use Country and Area\City Code. Otherwise leave it unchecked. The telephone number is: 955-0056
- Username: your GatorLink username.
- Password: your GatorLink password.
- For IP Address, select: My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one.
- For the DNS Server Address window, type: 128.227.128.24 (into the DNS Server field) and 128.227.148.253 (into the Alternative DNS Server field)
- You will be asked to setup the News service. Anwser Yes.
- All of the settings have been discussed before except for the News server. Use the server: usenet.nerdc.ufl.edu or usenet.ufl.edu
Internet Mail:
The first time you start Internet Mail, a setup wizard will appear. Use this wizard to set up Internet mail
to retrieve your E-mail. When prompted for a:
If you make a mistake these settings can be changed by selecting Internet mail's Mail menu and Options option. You will find other settings that you can change to personalize the program.
- "User name", type the username of your account or your GatorLink ID. (This question will be repeated.)
- "Password", type the password of your account or your GatorLink ID password. (This question will be repeated.)
- "Name", type your Real name. (i.e. johndoe)
- "Email Address", type your E-mail address (i.e. johndoe@ufl.edu).
- "Incoming mail (POP3) server", type the name of your E-mail service's POP server. (i.e. The GatorLink service is: pop.ufl.edu )
- "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server", type the name of your E-mail service's SMTP server. (i.e. The GatorLink service is: smtp.ufl.edu )
Almost all information can be found in the Help Menu regarding how to use the programs. Each program is relatively easy to use. A web tutorial is available in the Help menu of Internet Explorer.The automated dial-up is not working so you will need to manually dial-in to NERDC Dial-up Services or your GatorLink Dial-up Services until a solution is found.
To manually dial-in to NERDC Dial-up Services or your GatorLink Dial-up Services follow these directions:
- Double click the GatorLink Dial-up Services icon or NERDC Dial-up Services icon.
- Press the Connect button. A terminal window should appear.
- If the window does not appear, press the Properties button. In the General properties window, select the setting, "Bring up terminal window after dialing". Then press the Close button and try again.
- In the terminal window, enter your Username and Password when prompted. If you have a GatorLink account, append the characters: /I to your username. This informs the server that you have a GatorLink account
- At the NERDC-TS#> prompt, type the letters: PPP
- Press the Continue button. You should now be connected to the Internet.

Open The Internet Explorer 3.03 program Group
Double-click on the "Uninstall" icon.
