you to select which items you want to install. To see a description
of an item, click on the item (the description is displayed just
below the selection area).

III. How Do I Set Up Eudora?
- Open the Eudora Applications Folder and open
the Eudora program within.
- If this is your first time to use Eudora, Eudora is configured
to import settings and email messages from other email applications.
If you want to import your settings from Claris Emailer or Outlook
Express Select Yes otherwise select No
and proceed with the setup options.
- The Settings window should appear. If not, select
the Special pull-down menu and select Settings.
Keep in mind that the following settings are to setup Eudora to
use university email services. We will not be discussing every setting
available in Eudora. We leave the other setting for you to try out.
- In the Settings window, select (highlight) Getting
Started on the left side of the window.
- Select (highlight) the Checking mail icon on
the left of the screen.
- Choose the Mail Protocol IMAP,
if you want to view your email messages on the computer you are
using. Your messages will stay on the email server until you
delete them. Any messages that you move to the local folder
will be saved on the computer you are using. IMAP is a good
choice if you plan to read your mail from different computers because
your mail stays in one location on the mail server.
- Choose the Mail Protocol POP,
if you want to download your email messages to the computer you
are using. Your messages will stay on the computer until you
delete them. POP is a good choice if always use the same computer
to read your mail because keeping your mail on your computer leaves
more room on the mail server for new incoming messages.
- If you choose the IMAP Server Configuration,
then we suggest these options:
- If you use NERDC nersp services, DO NOT select the option,
Check for Mail every XX minutes. This option
could increase charges to your account and uses up your allocated
funding.
- The Grove and NERDC nersp accounts should have the Location
prefix set to:
/mail GatorLink email accounts should
have the Location prefix set to:
INBOX.,user
(Do not forget the period and the comma) All other
settings are optional.
- If you choose POP Server Configuration, then
we suggest these options:
- Select Leave your messages on the server
if you need to view your mail from a different computer.
- If you use NERDC nersp services, DO NOT select the option,
Check for Mail every XX minutes.
This option could increase the charges to your account.
- Select (highlight) the Attachments icon on the
left of the screen. We recommend that you create an Attachments
folder in the Eudora Applications folder called Attachments.
Attachments are non-plain-text (programs, images, word-processed
documents, etc.) files that are "attached" to email and sent like
a message would be. If you have this directory selected, Eudora
will "detach" the files from the text message and save them at this
location for your further use. Leave the Encoding method set to
BinHex.
This is easily done by selecting the bar next to the Attachments
folder setting. IN the Chooser window,
press the New folder button and enter the name
Attachments. Press the Create
button and then the Choose button to return.
- All other settings are optional. Press the OK
button to save your settings.

IV. How Do I Use Eudora?
Most functions of Eudora should be learned through its on-line
help (from the upper-right hand corner pull-down menu of help which
looks like a question mark). From that same help pull-down menu you
can turn on the balloon help (select Show Balloons) -- this will enable
you to point to nearly anything in the Eudora program (while
running) to get an
explanation of it.
A free copy of the Eudora user manual can be installed into your
Eudora folder. You will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader to read the document.
The README file only explains requirements, some configuration, and
someTroubleshooting/incompatibilities.
