I. Introduction
These instructions will walk you through how to set up your Macintosh
to dial-in to Gatorlink services.
If you have Operating System 9, please follow Step 2.
If you have Operating System 10, please follow Step
3.

II. Set Up Your Connection Using OS 9
For your computer to be able to connect to the Internet, some settings
must be specified. Please follow the steps below to set up dial-up
for OS 9:
- Click on the Apple menu, and open Control
Panels.
- Open Remote Access. This will
open a window which displays spaces for your username
and password. In the username
space, type your Gatorlink username
with a /i behind it. Your Gatorlink
username is the first part of your e-mail address (username@ufl.edu).
- In the password space, type your current Gatorlink
password. You may choose to click "Save
Password" underneath the space.
- Finally, enter the dialup number, which is 9550056.
- You may now exit out of Remote Access; just make sure you save
changes.
- In Control Panels, click on
TCP/IP. At the top, select Connect
via PPP from the pull-down menu. Next, select Configure
using PPP server from
the pull down menu. In the Domain Name Server Addresses,
enter in the following numbers: 128.227.128.24
or 128.227.148.253
- Finally, In the Search Domain space, enter:
ufl.edu
Close the TCP/IP window, saving changes. Also,
close the Control Panels window.
- These instructions should enable you to dial in to the Gatorlink
server. To dial in, click on the apple menu and select Remote Access
Status, and click dial.

III. Set Up Your Connection Using OS 10
For your computer to be able to connect to the Internet, some settings
must be specified. Please follow the steps below to set up dial-up
for OS 10:
- Click on the Apple menu, and open System
Preferences. You can also access System Preferences
through the docking bar.
- Click on the Network Icon. In the Location
pull-down menu, select Automatic.
In the Show pull-down menu, select Internal Modem.
- On the TCP/IP tab, in the Configure
pull-down menu, select Using PPP.
Below these settings, two boxes should appear. In the Domain
name servers box, enter in these
numbers: 128.227.128.24 or
128.227.148.253
- In the Search Domain box, enter ufl.edu.
- Click on the PPP tab. In the Service
Provider box, type Gatorlink. In the Account
Name box, type your Gatorlink username with a
/i behind
it. Your Gatorlink username is the first part of your e-mail address
(username@ufl.edu).
- In the password space, type your current Gatorlink
password. You may choose to click "Save Password"
underneath the space. Finally, enter the dialup number, which is
9550056.
- On the bottom of the PPP tab, click on the PPP
options button. A new window will appear, and under Advanced
options, select Send PPP echo packets,
Use TCP header compression, and
Connect using a terminal window (command line).
The last option is needed to connect to the Gatorlink
server; when you connect, simply press "Continue."
- Once you have finished, click Okay at the bottom.Click on the
Proxies tab. All the settings should be blank.
- Finally, click on the Modem tab. Select your
modem from the pull-down list. Both settings (enable error correction
and compression in modem and wait for dial tone before dialing should
be unchecked.) Click Apply Now at the bottom of
the Network menu and then close the Network
window.
- Click on the phone icon at the top of the Finder
bar. It should be at the upper right hand corner next to the time
stamp. Once you open this, click connect, and your computer will
start dialing in.

IV. Troubleshooting
If you experience troubles connecting, make sure that the selection
enable error correction and compression
and modem is
unchecked.
You will find this setting in OS 9 by opening Remote Access, clicking
on Options, and then clicking on the Connection Tab. In OS 10, open
System Preferences, click on Network, and then click
on the Modem tab.
Also, in OS 10, make sure that the setting connect
using a terminal window (command line) is enabled.
This setting can be found by opening System Preferences, clicking
on Network, clicking on the PPP tab, and then opening PPP Options.
